Canadians are calling on the Government of Canada to declare U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra persona non grata - and formally request his removal.

Ambassador Hoekstra has repeatedly interfered in Canadian political discourse - including calling the 2025 federal election "anti-American" - while normalizing the Trump administrations "51st state" annexation threats as a "term of endearment." He has been tied to a Michigan-based vote identification app used by the Alberta separatist Centurion Project, claiming no knowledge of its use, despite the app's founder being a direct associate - both sit as directors of the same Michigan organization. He also says he had "no info" about the three meetings between the Alberta Prosperity Project and U.S. State Department officials. This conduct is fundamentally incompatible with the role of a diplomat.

He's either lying or incompetent. Neither is acceptable.

Why is this petition is important?

Under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, ambassadors are expected to respect the state and stay out of its internal affairs. Ambassador Hoekstra has treated those obligations as suggestions - lecturing Canadians about anti-Americanism while representing an administration that is openly threatening our sovereignty, and playing dumb about his own network's ties to the movement trying to pull Alberta out of Confederation.Declaring a diplomat persona non grata is a formal, legal mechanism international law provides when an ambassador's conduct is incompatible with their role. This petition asks the Government of Canada to use it.
